Check your state law. You may not need to hire a teacher.
I find Switched on Schoolhouse (SOS) by Alpha Omega Publishing is good for my 5Th grader. We have used it since 3rd grade. SOS is a CD-Rom based program that needs little teacher assistance. They also have an academy that you can receive a diploma, if this is a concern for you. If you pay for the academy you also receive on line teacher assistance. Each state has its requirements, in some home schooling you will use exact programs provided by shools that furnish home schooling in those cases they may keep your test scores and also give out a dipolma

Next in other times you will have to register with the local school district often even supplying them the material you will learn.
You will also have to take and pass thier standardise testing each year.

And it is expected that your parent instruct you, not hire someone, you will have to check with your state to see if it is allowed.

You may want to consider putting an ad in your local paper or on Craigslist or equivalent asking about other parents in the area who homeschool their own and other children. In Arizona, where I lived for a while, I knew a girl who was homeschooled by her aunt, who also taught several other high school students. I’m sure the rules depend by state, but it is an option to consider.

Do you have a college near by? You may be able to hire a tutor for specific subjects. If your parents don’t want to be involved in homeschooling, you might also look into some of the online HS options (a websearch should pull up a lot of online programs).

I recommend you look for a homeschool support group. That would allow you to talk with other families and figure out how to make HS work for your family.

i think your first step would be to see what the homeschool laws are in your state. you should be able to do a google search and find it. states are very different in what they require.

Check on books in library and also reference and periodical works. The books will give you ideas about home schooling and about what you need to study by grade.

The reference and periodical works will give you the information you need for gaining approval with your state.

You cannot home school yourself. A parent must do it and be involved. It is very hard for a single parent and best for two parents when one is at home.

Parent or guardian must submit paper work to state. You may have a tutor but that person cannot “home school” you.

I myself see the need for tutors to take on a larger roll in assisting parents (especially working parents) in home schooling. Often the parents do not want to send their kids to broken down public schools and yet cannot afford the private schools they would like to send you to.

You might find an option in a charter school in your area. While they may work in conjunction with local school boards, they are sometimes run better than the public school due to staff or agenda. Often they get a larger number of students whose parents want to separate their kids from the trouble makers and drug dealers who, along with liberal fellow travelers, disrupt the entire American educational system.

Hello, I do not know if you and your father are Christians, but having home schooled my children I know that there are some excellent programs available through several organizations that specialize in homeschooling. Have your dad try A.C.E. (Accelerated Christian Education). Here they provide booklets in each subject, and you can work them at your own pace. If you are capable, you may do more than necessary for the school year. The first year my daughter did enough to skip a grade level. An extra advantage, you can travel and keep up with school work.
I once had a friend who planned to sail around the world with his wife and 2 sons. They were going to ‘home’school while on the boat. The A.C.E. program is also accredited, so attending a college after wards should not be a problem.

Problem, if you’re homeschooled it means you are learning on your own, or your parents are teaching you. For the situation you are looking for, that is called private tutors. It would cost a fortune to do that. Home schooling itself doesn’t cost that much. School supplies and a few workbooks. Libraries are free. Internet costs what it does…..

You can become your own best teacher.

My students (my own children) “self-teach” with the Robinson Curriculum. With it you learn how to accomplish your goals each day. The curriculum costs $195 and you can use it forever. You’ll need to buy Saxon Math or a similar high quality math program. And you’ll also need a good computer and printer.

If you don’t buy the Robinson program — learn how to read every instruction in a math book, do a lesson each day and strive for accuracy of 95% on each one. Write an essay and find someone to check it for you — every day. Read from a list of really GOOD books every day for at least 2 hours. Make sure the books you choose are written using excellent grammar and that they have high moral standards.
